The network's Premier Fresh Series of This Year Gets a Substantial Extension for Seasons 2 and 3.

During the fall season, Adult Swim debuted a new season of its unconventional hit, Smiling Friends. But, later that same month, the channel introduced a brand-new animated series with a markedly softer tone. Haha, You Clowns proved to be gentle and comforting, in the spirit of a animated take of a contemplative talk show. In an era often defined by cynicism, this show's sincerity resonated deeply and turned it into a surprise hit.

A Major Commitment

On December 18th, the network confirmed a big renewal: Haha, You Clowns has been picked up for two more seasons. This gives creator Joe Cappa significant creative freedom to develop the world of the Campbell family. The show centers on three respectful teenage brothers whose central trait is their strong bond for their widowed father, with Cappa providing the voices for all four key characters.

"I’m so grateful to the fans of the show who welcomed the series and shared it with others," stated Cappa. "I’m incredibly thrilled that I get to continue exploring the Campbell household for seasons to come."

A President's Endorsement

In the same announcement praise from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "radically heartfelt and strangely uncanny." He thanked the fans who found the show and advocated for its uniquely offbeat appeal.

"All of you supported this new show, championed for it on social media, and grew it week over week so we could approve not one, but two more seasons," noted Ouweleen. "In the words: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Comforting Counterpoint

Earlier this fall, Haha, You Clowns was hailed as "a comforting antidote" to more cynical adult animated fare. It offers something surprisingly comfy about following this charming family go about their everyday routines.

Previously, creator Joe Cappa stated his goal to move the comedy genre beyond its prevailing layer of irony. He attributed this trend to various cultural shifts.

“There's this level of irony that we keep returning to,” said Cappa. “It's like we have to know we’re the cleverest viewer in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for too long, and we must laugh at something different now. It's time for comedy to grow.”

Future Seasons

With this renewal, with Haha, You Clowns guaranteed to return, Cappa may well help usher in that very evolution. At a minimum, the renewal ensures audiences additional episodes to enjoy the warm glow of the endearing Campbell clan.

The season 1 finale of Haha, You Clowns airs on December 21st. The entire series is available for streaming on HBO Max.
