Slot Maintains He Is Safe and Retains The Club's Support After PSV Eindhoven Loss
The Liverpool head coach admitted that it's natural for concerns to be raised about his future following a further heavy loss against PSV Eindhoven.
Liverpool endured their 9th loss in 12 games, marking the team's worst streak since being relegated in the 1953-54 season.
They were outplayed by the Dutch league title holders on a punishing evening at their home ground.
“I'm confident, I'm fine, I've received significant backing from above,” the coach remarked.
“It would be great to reverse this trend and get a victory of course but if you are working as a coach and underperforming then it's expected that questions are asked.”
He added, “I'm comfortable with my role. It is not the initial instance I've found myself in a tough spot but it's crucial that we turned it around.”
Discussions with The Board
Upon being questioned to provide details on his discussions with the club's leadership, the head coach said:
“There's regular dialogue. They are helpful for the squad and to me and we discuss these matters but they aren't calling me every single minute of the day to say they trust me.”
He mentioned, “In the normal conversations we have I feel the confidence. But I haven’t spoken to them after this match so far so it remains to be seen.”
Recurring Issues and Player Reaction
Slot lamented recurring weaknesses from his Liverpool side in their European defeat, namely wasted chances and defensive lapses.
Meanwhile, player Curtis Jones was more direct in his assessment of the current crisis.
“I don’t have the answers. Truthfully, I do not. I'm telling that to everybody,” the midfielder said.
“It is not good enough. I don't have to wait to reflect. I'm beyond being angry inside. I’m at the point currently where I just don’t have the words.”
He went on, “It's tough because I play for the team I support. I’m a fan, and I’ve seen this club for years.”
“In recent memory, I haven’t experienced a Reds side experiencing a phase such as this with outcomes this poor.”
Jones finished, “But we continue to wear that badge on our chest. And as long as that badge is gone, we’re always going to fight.”
“We will attempt to help the side back to the top, show everyone once more what this club is about and why it's known as the greatest side in the world.”
“At this moment, we're in trouble and it needs to change.”
