Patson Daka Grabs Stoppage-Time Goal to Earn Zambia Against Mali in the Africa Cup of Nations.
The Leicester City forward brought to a close a 20-month goal drought for Zambia with his dramatic header in Morocco.
Zambia's star striker was the the match-saver for his nation as his injury-time header earned a thrilling 1-1 draw against Mali at the 2025 continental finals in Morocco.
Mali Takes First-Half Control
The Malian attacker had given his side the lead shortly after the 60-minute mark in the tournament's opening group fixture at the Stade Mohammed V, lashing home from point-blank range after his first effort from a corner kick had been parried.
The Eagles controlled the tempo and were awarded an opportunity to go in front in the closing stages of the first half after a Malian forward was fouled in the penalty area by Zambian defender Matthews Banda.
The designated penalty taker stepped up for the Eagles but his well-hit shot was brilliantly parried by Chipolopolo shot-stopper Willard Mwanza.
The Striker's Dramatic Header
Daka later secured a point for the 2012 Afcon winners, who were for the most part overwhelmed by the aerial strength of the Malians until the defender's delivery into the box was powered home by the attacker.
Tournament Standings
The result means both sides a couple of points behind tournament hosts Morocco in the Group A table after the Atlas Lions won their first match 2-0 against Comoros at the weekend.
Zambia will stay in the city to play their next game against their next opponents on the coming Friday, while The Eagles journey to the capital for a crucial showdown against the host nation.
