Operations Recommence at Scotland's Busiest Airport Following Major ATC System Failure
Passenger services have restarted at Scotland's primary international airport after a major ATC system failure halted all operations.
All aircraft movements were halted because of an technical fault that occurred at about 08:30.
Several flyers found themselves stranded in jets at the stand while the issue persisted.
Services Recommence with Continued Disruption
Officials announced at 10:40 that services were back online, and thanked passengers for their "understanding and cooperation".
Nonetheless, significant disruption are likely to affect schedules. Services bound for London Gatwick, Bristol, Amsterdam and Frankfurt have been axed, with a host of additional flights experiencing delays.
An airport representative had previously estimated that 27 departures and 11 arrivals could be disrupted.
"Travelers are urged to contact their airlines for the most up-to-date details on their booked journeys," the statement added.
Cause of the Chaos
The problem was traced to the widespread suspension to an systems failure with its ATC service provider.
Flyers are still being urged to confirm the details of their journey before traveling to the hub as residual delays are managed.
