Rob Edwards along with O'Neil are two of the early candidates under consideration to replace the former manager as head coach of Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The previous coach was dismissed on the weekend after the squad's ten-game without a victory beginning to the top-flight campaign.

Furthermore both candidates - each of whom have historic associations to the team - are part of the options to be considered by the Wolves ownership.

Edwards is presently at Middlesbrough, which would create a potential obstacle to his appointment at Molineux.

However the former Luton manager - who played over a century of appearances for Wolves during his playing career - is considered a leading contender for the position.

The 42-year-old is said to have support from the club directors as they start the search of hiring a new manager.

O'Neil is also appearing as a surprise contender, even though he would be a surprising appointment considering he was released by Wolves in December last year.

The ex- West Ham player is currently unemployed meaning the club would not be required to pay any compensation.
