Colts Face Falcons in German Capital – Week 10 NFL Action
Hello, football fans. How are you? Alles klar I trust on this excellent early start to week 10 coming straight outta Deutschland. The Olympiastadion in Berlin to be exact where at 8.30am CST/9.30am EST and 2.30pm GMT the mighty Colts (7-2) take on the Falcons (3-5). This marks the fifth matchup played on German soil and the initial in the nation’s capital.
Pre-match Highlights
As sparkly jackets go that is an absolute belter from the Olympic figure skater on the opening flip. A minor slip from the broadcast team there as we hear “who won the toss?” from the commentator with an accidentally live microphone.
Well, the coin toss went to Indianapolis and have elected to receive. The Colts' offense will be taking the field soon. Can the quarterback recover after a rough one in their last game?
In a similar vein the singer belting out the Star Spangled Banner has some of the largest shoulder pads you are bound to notice. Loving the sartorial choices today. We are almost underway after a choir performance for the national anthem of Germany. Elegant.
First Quarter Gameplay
Scoreless at 13:30 in the first
And we're off! And we have early drama after Jonathan Taylor catches a screen pass, gains 15 yards on the outside to the right side then loses the ball … only for his offensive lineman to recover the fumble with the ball retrieval. Indianapolis quickly moves into Atlanta's half.
Still scoreless at 10:51
And the drama keeps coming as the Colts go for it on 4th down. The risk doesn't work out as Josh Downs cannot reel in a fastball from the quarterback. On the play before the turnover on downs the Falcons defender put a huge hit on the Colts' tight end. Atlanta's defense started strong as they attempt to end their three-game losing streak. Following that, Sauce Gardner makes his first appearance!
Touchdown Recap
First score: Colts lead 6-0 at 8:36
Was that a missed touchdown by Kyle Pitts? The tight end drops a clanger, he was very open but the ball just swishes through his hands. That play rather sums up the first round pick’s career to date.
A disappointing start but it only deteriorates for the Atlanta as they cough the ball back to the Indianapolis on the 23-yard line. Michael Penix Jr is sacked and can’t keep hold of the ball.
An agile 22-yard rush from the Colts receiver sets the running back up to roll in for the score on the next snap. Kicker Michael Badgley misses the point after attempt. Oops.
TOUCHDOWN! Colts 6-7 Falcons 6:07, 1st quarter
The quarterback recovers from the turnover by marching his Falcons down the field for a score of their own. The wide receiver makes some substantial catches to put them in the red zone then the seas part for Tyler Allgeier to saunter on to the goal line through the middle of the defense for a 13-yard gain. He completes the drive for a one-yard touchdown of his own. The Falcons take the lead.
Other Tenth Week Matchups
And for afters, the jumbo package starting at 1 PM EST and 6 PM GMT (home teams listed first) is as follows:
(5-4) Panthers v New Orleans Saints (1-8)
(5-3) Bears v Giants (2-7)
(3-5) Houston Texans v Jacksonville Jaguars (5-3)
(2-7) Miami Dolphins v Bills (6-2)
(4-4) Vikings v Baltimore Ravens (3-5)
(1-7) Jets v Cleveland Browns (2-6)
(6-2) Buccaneers v New England Patriots (7-2)
An exciting lineup. My pick for the best game is the Vikings and Ravens playing out the top contest of the day.
