British Designer Antony Price, Renowned for Styling Iconic Acts Like Bowie and Duran Duran, Has Died Aged 80.
The British designer Antony Price, the influential style architect responsible for a series of unforgettable images favored by artists from David Bowie to Roxy Music and even royalty like Queen Camilla, has passed away at the age of 80.
He was celebrated for his architectural shapes and dramatic aesthetics, such as the pastel suits that became famous from the iconic band Duran Duran's seminal music video for "their hit Rio".
"Remembering him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' Duran Duran shared a message on social media."
This news arrives just weeks after he presented his latest collection in London, which was his first major show in over 30 years. Artist Lily Allen modelled a dress that paid homage to the iconic black velvet "dress" once worn by the late Princess Diana.
An Enduring Influence
Hailing from Yorkshire, where he was born in 1945, Price headed for London during the sixties to study at the prestigious Royal College of Art.
Shortly after his graduation, he began designing men's fashion at Stirling Copper and was behind the form-fitting, button-fly pants that The Rolling Stones' frontman Mick Jagger sported during the band's Gimme Shelter tour in 1969.
He founded his own label in 1979 and staged his first fashion show a year later. The show featured as its opener creations worn by the famed model Jerry Hall, who later wore the marriage dress Price designed for her for her marriage to Sir Mick Jagger.
Partnerships with Stars
A frequent collaborator of musical chameleon David Bowie, Price was the mind behind the memorable jacket the artist wore for his "the song As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.
His signature ability to fuse tailoring for all genders along with his masterful technique in crafting body-hugging looks made him a "genuine original," in the words of the British Fashion Council.
By the 1990s, he commenced designing ensembles for the then-Duchess of Cornwall, Camilla, which included various looks for her tour of the United States following her marriage.
After a career spanning more than five decades, Price held his ultimate fashion presentation in London last month in partnership with the label 16Arlington.

The industry laments the passing to a true visionary whose impact on the visual landscape of music remains deeply ingrained.
